Community living for persons with intellectual disabilities – employment
National Conference

“Pentru Voi” Foundation in co-operation with Inclusion – The Federation of Organizations for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities from Romania will organise the national conference “Community living for persons with intellectual disabilities – employment”, which will take place in Mamaia, on 30nd and 31st of August 2005. The conference is financed by the Swedish Organisations' of Disabled Persons International Aid Association and the Open Society Institute Budapest.

In the disability field, in Romania, once the National Strategy for the Special Protection and Social Inclusion of Disabled Persons was approved by the Government in 2002 and the National Action Plan was elaborated through a Twinning Light Project by the National Authority for People with Handicap and Dutch experts in 2003, the legislation has to be changed in order to facilitate the inclusion of persons with intellectual disabilities. Considering that the most efficient way for the inclusion of persons with intellectual disabilities is through employment, this conference aims to analyze different employment opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities, the factors involved in this process, and to present models of good practice in this field.

At the conference, the Report on Access to Education and Employment for People with Intellectual Disabilities in Romania will be launched. The report is part of a project run by The Open Society Institute –European Union Monitoring and Advocacy Program (EUMAP) and Mental Health Initiative (OSMHI), consisting in preparation of monitoring reports in 15 EU countries. More information on the reports can be found on: www.eumap.org.
