21-22 September, 2005

The Secretariat of the African Decade of People with Disabilities, in collaboration with the Secretariat of the African Union, is planning an International Partners Meeting, to take place 21-22 September, 2005 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The purpose of the Meeting is to give momentum to the African Union-declared  African Decade of Persons with Disabilities (1999-2009) and its Continental Plan of Action. The Meeting will bring together national and international stakeholders in order to examine practical ways to mainstream disability issues and people with disabilities in poverty reduction strategies and development programmes at national level.

Representatives of governments, national DPOs and NGOs - members of National Decade Steering Committees in Africa - as well as of international development partners, donor agencies, continental DPOs, media, religious, and other organizations are being invited to drive forward the African Decade by establishing networks on a national and continent-wide basis.

Please save the date and contact katharina@africandecade.co.za for more information on the International Partners Meeting. The Decade Partners Meeting is open to all - if you would like to receive an official invitation, please send your contact details - telephone and fax numbers as well as postal address.
