Official theme: Diversity in life cycle of individuals, families and society.

NATIONAL FEDERATION OF APAEs, (Federação Nacional das APAES, the Brazilian national association comprising over 2,000 APAEs chapters (one organization per municipality, covering almost half of Brazilian cities and towns) will sponsor the XXIII National Congress of APAES, to take place in Vitoria, capital of state Espírito Santo from 4 – 7 November, 2008

This year we intend to promote national and international conferences, roundtables, talks, artistic presentations and thematic dialogues: 1) inclusion and social exclusion; 2) socio-cultural diversity and regionalism; 3) management of social nets; 4) public policies; 5) equality of opportunities; 5) identity: plurality and singularity.

The structure of program foresees a main conference for each thematic axis, talks and roundtables on dissemination of innovative experiences; of scientific-academic works and projects to disseminate each axis.

Thematic axis on Exclusion/social inclusion: there will be debates on issues related to work, income generation, associativism, cooperativism as well as job finding; education, mainly on literacy of persons with intellectual disabilities and inclusive policies; ageing process, especially regarding preventive actions and promotion of healthy ageing; human rights, issues on health; discrimination and prejudices; family, school and religion and many other issues.

Thematic axis on Socio-cultural Diversity and Regionalism; discussions on gender and disability;multiculturalism; artistic languages and the development of persons; importance of strengthening links with family; sexuality and disability; violence and protection policies;

Thematic axis on monitoring of Social Nets; the specificity of social movements and their role in actions and services of public interest;

Management of third sector; social mobilization and community action; securing funds, and other issues.

Thematic axis on public policies on equality of opportunities;analysis of policies on preventive actions and promotion of health of persons with disabilities, diagnosis and early stimulation and other issues.

Identity; plurality and singularity with a debate on construction of identity of a person with disabilities, profile of persons with disabilities,
social and human development, fundamental rights, inclusive education and accessibility; self-advocates.

A public of around 3,000 persons is expected, among them those who work directly with the APAEs net, health, education and social assistance professionals, members of the administration staff of the 2,012 existing APAEs, besides students, public policy managers, people from universities, etc.

The XXIII National Congress of APAEs received confirmation of participation from different sectors, renowned specialists, university professors, all of them with acknowledged scientific production;besides policy makers and people and organizations involved in guaranteeing the rights of persons with disabilities in Brazil.

Up to beginning July 1,600 persons had already sent their enrolment

And so we suppose we shall have again a great success in a national Congress as the one being planned.
