Christa Schönbächler, from INSIEME represented Inclusion International at the Human Rights Council Special Event on the entry into force of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and its Optional Protocol

The commemorative event took place at the United Nations Office at Geneva, in Palais des Nations, on 6 June 2008.

The event, hosted by Ambassador Doru Costea, President of the Human Rights Council, focused on the human side of the Convention and aimed to illustrate how the Convention’s implementation may improve the lives of persons with disabilities in practical ways.

The panellists spoke about the issue of women with disabilities, accessibility and disability and poverty. Amongst the panellists, Mr Lex Grandia  spoke on behalf of the International Disability Alliance (IDA) and the CRPD Forum, which consists of many representatives with disabilities as well as organizations working in the area of disability world wide, including Inclusion International.

Inclusion International was very honoured to have Christa Schönbächler delivering a statement on Legal Capacity on its behalf.
