Inclusion International: Global Conference on Inclusive Education, Salamanca, Spain By Johari Bin Jamali, President of Unite Voice of Malaysia a society that promotes Self-Advocacy http://www.unitedvoice.com.my/ Hola amigos (which it means hello my friends in Spanish)
Return to Salamanca: Confronting the Gap: Rhetoric, Rights & Reality was the theme of the Global Conference on Inclusive Education held from October 21 – 23, 2009 in Salamanca, Spain.
Swee Lan and I were sponsored by Inclusion International to attend this conference as participants. The conference was held in the University of Salamanca. When I joined the inclusion education meeting I wanted to know what inclusion is all about. I have to open my mind. I don’t want to end up becoming a small minded person. The meeting was amazing and I love the way they think, the way they talk and their opinions are different.
Inclusive education is for everyone including all races, all religions no matter who they are either they are people with learning disabilities, disabled or without disabilities or difficulties.
No matter what people think, it is the best way to include everyone. People with disabilities should also have real school life like other children. I think we can learn more from one another by studying together. People without disabilities can understand us better when we grow up together with them. If we are separated all the time, people will not understand us and they will not learn how to relate with people who may be different in the way they talk or respond to things around them. I also hope more teachers will be trained to support students with mild or severe disabilities. The education should be more fun and encourage students to mingle with one another. We can have more understanding of each others faiths, without racism or picking on other students who are different.
Garcias (which means thank you in Spanish)
