Inclusion International Secures UN Project to Support Involvement in the UN Convention

The objectives of the project are to:

• Strengthen the Capacity of national level family based organizations and self-advocacy groups to participate in specific discussions about areas of the Convention that have the potential to impact on their lives and to engage with their governments in this process;
• Strengthen the global voice and visibility of self-advocates and families in the UN Convention;
• Improve State Parties understanding and sensitivity to the issues affecting people with intellectual disabilities

In practical terms the project will allow II to support self-advocacy involvement in the various activities, conferences and events planned for 2006. This is the second phase of an initiative that was started in 2005 in partnership with Inclusion Europe. Activities in 2006 will include a self-advocacy workshops focused on the UN Convention in Africa, Asia and Mexico (World Congress).
