Ratification of the UN Convention in the Middle East countries.

September 9th, 2007

1.radio session on Radio Kuwait station stressing the importance of the UN Convention and its impact on the life quality for people with disability and their families. The participants expressed the importance of shifting the social policies on disability from charitable terms to Human Rights based legislation. UN Convention is the appropriate tool to achieve that.

2. Massive gathering for persons with disability and their families was held ant the head quarter of Kuwait Teachers Union. Speakers from II were invited to talk abour their experience with the Convention.Miss Mary Farah Council Member of Inclusion International and representative of Self-advocates of Middle East and North Africa at Inclusion International delivered a power point presentation explaining her experience and the challenges she faced since her birth. She explained the obstacles which she overcame. She underlined the importance of family understanding and support. It was obvious the tremendous achievements she was able to do and succeed, to prove that self-advocates can do a lot if they are given the proper chances.

Consultative Meeting Kuwait and United Nation Convention.His Highness Shaikh Sabah Al Khaled Al Sabah Minister of Labor and Social Affairs assured that Kuwait is in the final stages in ratifying the UN Convention.
