"Different, but together” receives The Greatest Award at the Civil Society Gala in Romania Inclusion International would like to congratulate Pentru Voi Foundation for receiving the Greatest Award at the Civil Society Gala for their project "Different but Together". The event which took place Tuesday, May 20th at the Romanian Athenaeum in Bucharest.
The project has won the category Social services for disadvantaged persons and competed with the other winners from 7 other categories for the Greatest Award and won it!
The goal of the project „Different, but together” was to employ persons with intellectual disabilities. The results: 73 persons with intellectual disabilities employed (43 persons in the Social Enterprise “Pentru Voi”, 23 persons on the free labor market and 7 persons in other social enterprises from Timisoara), 13 persons with severe intellectual disabilities were included in the supported employment program. We set up partnership with 26 companies from Timisoara; we created a video-testimonial about the supported employment which was promoted at a local TV, on our webpage, on YouTube, and at various conferences. 15 journalists wrote about the advantages of the supported employment of the persons with intellectual disabilities. Our social company had a turnover of 63.360 euro and 13.420 euro profit in just 6 months.
This year, 115 projects with a total value of 7.9 millions euro competed at the Romanian Civil Society Gala. The projects were divided in 8 sections: Education and Research, Art and Culture, Civic Behavior and Public Participation, Protection of the Individual and Collective Rights, Health, Social Services for the disadvantaged, Environmental Protection, Economic and Social Development. http://www.pentruvoi.ro/index_en.htm
The KENYA ASSOCIATION FOR THE INTELECTUALLY HANDICAPPED (KAIH), has put together a report on the post elections violence and the impact on the Persons with Intellectual disabilities and their families.The report provides graphic details of the horrors of the situation and it includes recommendations to be adopted in order to help prevent further such situations.
