Inclusion International Launches Campaign to Promote the Right to Live in the Community to Mark International Day of Persons with Disabilities

Election of Twelve Committee Members of CRPD Committee at 3rd Conference of States Parties, 1 September 2010

United Nations, NY – The States Parties to the CRPD opened the Third Conference of States Parties (COP) by electing twelve CRPD Committee members today. Each candidate had to be presented by a country that is a State Party to the Convention. Yesterday, on behalf of IDA, I attended the Realizing Rights/Amnesty International seminar Human Rights: Foundation for Progress on the MDGs held at the Ford Foundation in New York.  This was a meeting of about 100 people chaired by Mary Robinson, former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and currently President of Realizing Rights. Amnesty International has traditionally not been involved in development issues, but their incoming Secretary General, Salil Shetty currently is Director of the UN Millennium Campaign and clearly they will paying more attention to development issues in the future.Read More

A Global Report on Inclusive Education – “Better Education for All: When We’re Included Too”, which was released at a conference on inclusive education in Salamanca, Spain, October 21-23, 2009, identified significant barriers preventing children with disabilities from attending school.
